Q: Isn't breastfeeding natural?
Yes! However, even though breastfeeding is natural it doesn't always come easily. Both mother and baby need to learn together. Often, it is a simple adjustment, accurate information at the right time, or just the support of someone knowledgeable and skilled that can make all the difference.
Q: Why would I want to take a Lamaze Childbirth Class Series?
Lamaze is no longer all about breathing! While breathing as a comfort measure is one part of the content taught, modern Lamaze classes share evidence based information for a safe and healthy birth. The foundation of Lamaze education is the Six Healthy Birth Practices
- Let labor begin on its own.
- Walk, move around and change position throughout labor.
- Bring a loved one, friend or doula for continuous support.
- Avoid interventions that are not medically necessary.
- Avoid giving birth on your back and follow your body's urges to push.
- Keep mother and baby together; it’s best for mother, baby and breastfeeding.
Investing in education that will increase your confidence to have the safest and healthiest birth possible is one of the most important decision of your pregnancy!
Q: Why hire a birth doula?
The evidence shows that doulas improve birth outcomes. When a doula is present, many medical interventions are reduced and the family's satisfaction with the birth experience is increased.
Q: Aren't doulas just for natural births?
Doulas are for every kind of birth! However and wherever you give birth, it will be an impactful experience. A doula always keeps in mind that this is your unique experience and helps you amplify your voice.
Q: How will you help me during labor?
There are many ways I will provide support and assistance during your labor. We will discuss this in-depth in our pre-birth meetings but in short: physical comfort measures, verbal encouragement, and guidance with communication with your medical team.
